Thursday Evening Time Trials 2007

Every Thursday from 3rd May at 7pm(start), to late August, we run a club time trial on a sporting course based on the Crowhurst Road race circuit. The event consists of 2 laps of the 6.25 mile circuit, making a testing 12.5 miles in all. The HQ for the event is the Crowhurst village Hall car park and the start is immediately opposite the car park.

It is traditional, after the race, for some members to retire to the Brickmakers Arms for refreshment and sustenance.

Members of other clubs are welcome to ride. There is a £2 signing on fee.

Thursday 19 July

A very fine but slightly breezy night, four OP's turned up, Stuart Hourigan closely followed by Iain Hawthorne, then a blast from the past, Barry Newman, great to have you back mate. All three went for a warm up, apon their return Barry wanted to get on with it as he felt that he might have already peaked and Iain, well he was just having a nightmare with anything computerised, first his speedo wouldnt work then his car wouldnt unlock, he was getting in a right tiz, then he wanted his handlebars lowered! This was done, he then received a phonecall from Dave, which he tried to answer whilst wearing his pointy hat, not easy, Dangerous was stuck in traffic and would be uncharacteristically late. Well Dave arrived and had two minutes warm up and they were off.

At the finish, Dave was happy, as was Barry { first TT in three years }, Iain was hoping for better things and Stuart well { eee couldnt get speed oop, me legs felt shyyte, dont know wats matta }

The results:

Stuart Hourigan 32.40  6pts

Dave Hickman 33.04  5pts

Iain Hawthorne 33.35  4pts

Barry Newman 35.29  3pts

Time keeping by the way by a new kid on the block, Bashers!

Thursday 5th July
Bad light rain and lack of resolve stopped play, although it is believed that Bashers and Stuart found substitute activities in the Brickmakers Arms.

Thursday 28 June

After a 2 weeks break, due to competing with the Surrey Roads CC in our Annual interclub event, the Evening series resumed on a damp and windy evening. Only 2 riders presented themselves at the start, Andy and Dangerous
'Dangerous' Dave did 33.27 (16.35/16.52) and Andy 35.05

Thursday 6 June
Massive turn out this week, myself and Iain!! A big thanks to Andy for coming along and doing the time keeping. It was a pleasant enough night with a little head wind from the Brickmakers to the Red Barn. Both of us seemed to hit traffic at the Red Barn and I also had the pleasure of two vehicles pulling out infront of me (time wasted as I turn to gesture a polite thank you).Anyway the all important times

Stuart 32.08 (1st 15.52)
Iain 33.06 (1st 16.33)

Very strong ride from Iain, not prepared to let me pass him (anyone got a hook and chain I could borrow for next week?)

Thursday 31 May

A fine looking evening yet cool and breezy conditions greeted our brave crew. Andy, Dave, Bashers and Stuart raced off while Fatherjac did the timing and Oz played photographer / cinematographer out on the course. The results were:-

Bashers 32:21
Stuart 33:38
Dangerous 33:39
Andy 34:46

Dangerous 'at it'

Stuart, clearly preoccupied with his weekend visit to Czechoslovakia, was well off his best while Bashers looked fresh and focussed and put in an excellent ride. Dangerous Dave also impressed with a half minute improvement over last week and only 1 second behind Stuart!.... nice one Dave!

Andy did a seasons best( I think)

Thursday 24 May

Oz reporting..........( Editors remark..... sorry! )

.........I must have cut a lonely figure , as i strode across the car-park ,
watch in hand , the gentle summer breeze tousling my hair, i counted our merry warriors away ( and counted them all safely home
again ) we then repaired to the 'Brick makers' where smashed baby Chickens and curdled Cow juice were consumated , washed down with copious amounts of fermented juice the Humulus family ........and so to bed ..........oz!

Editors intervention below :

Results showing a close contest between Bashers and the upstart Hourigan and a fast improving Treasurer

Bashers 31,52 (15.54)
Stuart 32.00 (15.40)......
Iain 32.51 ( 16.30)( all new bike 'n' pointy 'at. Worth the 1500 squid ?) ....
Dangerous 34.11 (16.44)( enjoying himself ??)

Thursday 17 May

Stuart wins again and Dave Hickman beats Andy in his slippers.

1st - Stuart
2nd - Iain
3rd - Dave
(slippers - perhaps we should mount them for a trophy!)
4th - Andy (not wearing slippers)

Andy had already ridden 190 miles in the week, so fair enough really.

Thursday 3 May First event in Series

Stuart takes advantage

The evening was bright but cool with a keen northerly wind. Four riders rode this, the first event of the series, and Stuart Hourigan took full advantage of Bashers absence to record the winning time. Iain Hawthorne did very well on his debut ride on this circuit. Andy Green and Nelly, riding their road bikes, also posted excellent times.

The full result was :-

1 Stuart Hourigan 32m:30s
2 Iain Hawthorne 34m:45s
3 Andy Green 36m:03s
4 Neil Gillespie 36m18
