Road Racing 2005

May 1st Old Portlians CC road races

Mayday! and the sun shone on Crowhurst where the Old Ports road races were running in association with the Surrey League. 

In the morning the 4th cats had their head with Shannon Durrant, of the Pearson cycles squad ploughing a lone furrow about 30 secs ahead of the bunch for about 25 of the 40 mile race to win by 10 seconds from a sprinting peloton. 

The afternoon saw the 3rd cats and Juniors had a turn and in a sprint finish up the final hill Lewis Atkins of the Glendene CC took the honours .

The organisation was,as usual superb, with most members getting out on the day to put on a show par excellence, for which a big thank you to everyone.  A special mention must go to Simon and the girls who did so well 'foddering' the greedy hordes.

The general organisation was done brilliantly, this year, by Dave Hickman, with advice and assistance of Clive Jeffery our organiser for the past few years.  It was nice to see Clives family out helping enjoying the day too,  especially Chris'.  Many spectators and riders remarked on how well things had been laid on.  The whole day was a great credit to the club....Well done everyone!!!!

Finally we wish Piers Stansfield (London Dynamo) a speedy recovery following his 'tumble' in the last mile of the 3rd cat event - we were pleased to hear nothing was broken!
