Gary Bryant Excels in the Edenbridge and East Grinstead Triathlons
8th and 14th May

Gary Bryant reports

Well and truely robbed i wos!! Well, unlucky...

The Tonbridge course is a bit hilly, (my kind of course) with most of the ups being the first half of it. Safely over the worst of the hills and started to feel good it was time to put the hammer down, and get on the tri bars. Then as i pulled on the bars up a slight rise. CRACK!!! a snapped bracket and my bars were left dangling over the front wheel for the remaining mainly downhill 6 miles of the ride. I'd say a good 30 seconds lost. I still managed to put in the fastest bike split in the race by some margin :-)

East Grinstead Triathlon:-

Another good race, and a stronger field. I came 4th, just 6 seconds from picking up some silverwear :-( No real excuses for this one, except maybe the conditions being a bit cold for me, and a bit tired from some tough training in the week..

Duathlon Championships

Not much to say.... I  had a good race.
finishing 3rd in my age group (35-39)  I ran a pb 10k of 36:19 over a
measured 10k course.  The 40k bike was tough after the run, and I had to
back off as I could feel my legs about to cramp. Finished the race with a
good 5k run to finish 3rd, in age group, and 9th in the overall race.

Next back to Triathlon (Olympic distance), a rather disappointing race at
Milton Keynes saw me finish 2 minutes down on my pb for the course, but just
good enough to see me retain the position of club champion at this distance.
A week later was the Worthing Triathlon.  A better performance saw me
finishing 4th.  A couple of places down on last year, but a stronger field
this year. http://www.southdownsbikes.com/Worthing_Results.xls
Although ex bike pro Chris lillywhite was the only person to beat me on the bike, I still didn't feel my cycling was anywhere near where it was a year ago...  This was confirmed less than a week later when bashers gave me a good thrashing at the clubs open 10.
I did the Bexley cc evening 10 on the Q10/26 on the 17th August.  With very heavy legs, I was pleased to post a 22:39.  Not my best, but a sign my form is improving.
